FALL GUYS REVIEW - 4.5/5

Fall Guys Review: Work

Fall guys is quickly becoming the hottest and fastest-selling game of 2020. If you haven’t already played or at least heard of the game, then you must be living under a rock as it is taking over the gaming community and social media.

For those unfamiliar with the game, Fall Guys is platformer battle-royale/mad-dash over bizarre obstacles to beat out your competitors and be the last one standing. If you have even seen the show Total Wipeout, it is essentially that except you play as a giant jelly bean in a strange and over the top costume.

The game has 60 players who compete to be the last one standing across five rounds. Some of the rounds include; Dizzy Heights - a race across spinning plates and giant balls to the finish line. See Saw - A balancing act/race to the finish across giant seesaws and Tail Tag - you must finish the round with a tail which you can steal from opponents to avoid elimination. In the later rounds, there are teams games in which you work with the members of your team to complete a task such as collect eggs and put them in baskets, push a ball into a goal or tag members of other teams. The losing team(s) are eliminated. The first four rounds leading up to the final, which is either a race or a challenge to be the last man/ jelly bean standing.

What makes Fall Guys so great is that it literally requires no skill. The controls are run, jump and dive. While practice improves these skills the levels are randomly generated and often team-based, so it is as much down to luck as it is skill. Popular battle-royale style games such as Fortnite, PUBG and Apex Legends have seen a drop off in players as some players spend hours and I mean hours perfecting their building, shooting and scouting out the best locations. This makes it very hard for more casual players to have a chance at winning or even coming close. However, this is not happening with Fall Guys as it there isn’t really any getting good. The mini-games are updated regularly getting rid of older ones and replacing them with new ones so, you never know what you are going to get when you log in.

The only problem with this otherwise perfect battle-royale party game is the sever issues and glitches. You may be having a great run when all of a sudden you are propelled off the course or taken back to the home screen. The main reason for this issue is that the developers didn’t think the game would blow up as fast as it did and don't have the capacity for everyone. However, I am sure they will fix this problem and are rewarding unfortunate players that experience this issue with free costumes for their jelly-bean avatar.

Whether you are a casual or more serious gamer, I highly recommend downloading Falls Guys for hours of fun and laughs with your favourite jelly beans. I hope this game comes to more platforms soon such as the Nintendo Switch, Mobile and X-BOX one so everyone can experience Fall Guys.
